I've got a story of transformation to share with you. It's about my client Terri who used to struggle with elevated blood sugar levels, but managed to turn things around by making some simple changes in her life.
She shared with me that there were 3 simple, yet profound steps she took to transform her health: She started moving her body daily, focused on calming her anxiety and making a conscious effort to connect with people in her life.
She was blown away at the results! The best part is that all of us can do the same thing and enjoy the same results she’s enjoying. All it takes is a bit of a mind shift; to know that all these tools are within our reach.
Now, picture Terri. She's just like you and me, hustling through life, juggling work and family life like the rest of us. But all that constant stress took a toll on her body, and her blood sugar levels were way out of control. This made her anxious and worried about her health.
But here's where the story takes a turn for the better. Terri decided she'd had enough and sought help.
By applying the principles taught in my course “From Fatigued to Fabulous” she discovered that reducing stress was the key to regaining control of her blood sugar levels.
As she learned to let go of stress and anxiety, her blood sugar levels started to stabilize. Most people don’t realize there’s a connection between blood sugar and stress.
When we’re in fight or flight all day long, our cortisol levels go up. Cortisol is the stress hormone that helps us keep sugar in the blood so we can fight or flee, in case of a threat.
Think about it: If we’re constantly stressed, our blood sugar is going to remain high.
But that's not all she did. Terri also realized that moving her body made a huge impact on her blood sugar levels.
So, she made an effort to incorporate physical activity into her routine, whether it was going for walks, trying out yoga classes, or even weight training. Not only did she feel stronger physically, but her blood sugar levels started to respond.
Did you know that your muscle mass can become an endocrine organ that helps you process blood sugar? In the latest studies of muscle mass and blood glucose, researchers have found that blood glucose in people with greater muscle mass is lower than in people with comparatively lower muscle mass.
What does this mean for you and me? It means that we now have evidence that working out is not only beneficial for losing weight and getting strong, but it’s better than medicine when it comes to balancing blood sugar. And it’s free! No side effects!
And here's the kicker. Terri found that connecting with people in her life was a game-changer for her.
She made a point of spending quality time with loved ones, having meaningful conversations, laughing, and creating cherished memories. These special connections boosted her overall well-being and contributed to the balance she craved.
Now, I'm not saying this was all Terri did. Choosing wholesome real food also played a role. Terri learned to fuel her body with protein, fiber and healthy fats.
She applied the principles I teach in my group courses and my social media. If you follow me, you have heard me teach and share. Soon I will be sharing with you a place where you can get access to more information from me.
We have the power to make a difference in our own health. Unfortunately, we haven’t been taught how to do it. We’re taught to go to the doctor when something breaks down. We’re taught to take medication to get better. We’re taught to wait until we’re sick to do anything about our health.
However, it’s now evident that we have tools within our reach to prevent disease and lead the healthy lives we deserve.
By eating wholesome foods, getting plenty of sleep, reducing stress, getting up and moving, and nurturing our relationships, we can find that sweet spot of balanced blood sugar levels. It's all about taking that first step and choosing to prioritize our well-being.
Warmly,
Monica.
Certified Nutritionist and Functional Medicine Practitioner
I’m a Certified Nutritionist and a Functional Medicine Practitioner. My training as a dietitian with a Masters degree, who chose a career in nutrition and dietetics did not prepare me for my health journey ahead.
A stressful job, combined with hormonal imbalance and a history of blood sugar swings was the perfect storm for a health breakdown.
I found the help I needed by searching as a patient; not a clinician. When I found relief I knew I had to dedicate myself to guiding others toward restored health, through finding root causes. I found blood sugar regulation to be at the core of chronic illness.
I’m here to guide and support you and show you the way. I’m dedicated to sharing the tools I’ve acquired along the way. You can expect me to bring information to you about health topics that will help you find robust health!
Welcome home!
